Character Changes: Tyler
Tyler has changed throughout this novel in many ways. But one major way is he changed his feelings about Bethany. He always referred to her as the "Queen Bee". He had very strong feelings for her he even as quoted, " After that I performed superhuman feats of speed to make it to her fourth- and eighth- period classes so I could accidentally be standing close by in case she decided to smile again." He raced to her classes just to see her smile, he even blushed and stuttered at her presence like he did at his car when she said hello, and all he could say is, "Ha.. Hey- ya." But throughout the plot Tyler begins to spend more time with her, like at the football game. They go together and even sit by one another. They eat lunch together, and etc. Then a party comes up. It will have alcohol, and tons of people. Plus it'll be at a home where no parents will be. Bethany gets totally "shit-faced" from all the booze, and expects Tyler to sleep with her. She pulls him upstairs, and attempts to have her way but he says no. She freaks out and goes downstairs to only grab another man from the party. He eventually looses her and sadly she got her "desire". In the end she is running to him while he enters the school he is screming for him and all he does is smile and shut the door. This causes him to change drastically by not just turning her away but by being able to say no to the girl he yurned for.
Another way he changes is in how he gets a relationship with his father. Tyler always referred to him as, "Corporate Tool." and how he'd always been a, "...hardass, but since his latest promotiwon, he'd dialed it up." His father in his eyes was a crabby, irratable monster. Always locked away in his den of eternal work. His father to prve this notion made Tyler and his sister stay home from the homecoming game. So Tyler could cut the grass and her stay at home so they all could have "family time". And eventually his father has just a complete come apart. He sscreams bloody murdeer throughout the house. The family has always ignored this but finally Tyler stands up to him. He takes a bat and goes downstairs to face the "monster". Eventually Tylers' dad kicked him out so Tyler leaves to Yoda's house to stay for the night. Eventually Tyler walks towards his home to see his father on the porch. They talk and his father says, " My father beat me with his belt a couple times a week for my entire childhood, that's why I swore I'd never ghit you or your sister. And I never did," and he goes on to say, " But it wasn't enough." Eventually him and Tyler eat breakfast and talk and work it out. Tyler changed from hating his dad with a burning passion to loving him more than ever. These are a few ways Tyler changed from the many conflicts in this book.
